The
capital of rajasthan, the pink city jaipur surrounded by
embattled walls with rugged hills on there sides. Jaipur was
founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, princes, soldier,
astronomer and builder. Jai Singh ascended the throne of amber
in 1699 when Aurangzeb, the great Mogul, was the ruling
monarch in Delhi. Soon after he came to throne Jai Singh
realized that Amber was unsuitable as the capital. He decided
to build a new and much larger city on the plains adjoining
the range of the hill at Amber. The foundation of jaipur were
laid in 1727. Jai Singh’s ambition was to make Jaipur one of
the best cities of his times.He obtained the plans of some of
the renowned European cities and them made a blue print for
Jaipur in consultation with the famous astronomers,
mathematicians and architects of the his
time.

Hawa
Mahal (the Place of Winds) Hawa Mahal is an impressive and
charming building of Jaipur on account of its unique
architectural ornamentation. This Building lying in the heart
of city was build by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in the year
1799. It is pyramidical five storeyed building with
semioctagonal overhanging balconies placed symmetrically one
over the above and small domes and finials on the curvilinear
roofs. The delicate perforated screens of balconies with
numerous small windows have earned the name ‘Hawa Mahal’ to
signify the flowing of soothing westerly air in
summers.

This
graceful building of sandstone and white marble built in
commemoration of visit of prince Albert (of wales) who also
laid its foundation stone on Feb. 6th 1876, by Maharaja Ram
Singh II. The museum contains a vast collection of industrial
arts and craft, such as metalware, invory carving, jewellery,
textile, pottery, carved wood articles;in addition to
sculptures and paintings. It is particularly rich specimens of
ambossed hammered and chased brassware for which Jaipur is
well known. The building is built on indo-Sarcenic style with
beautiful cupolas, domes and balconies.

Amber
the ancient capital of Dhundhar or Jaipur State lies 11 km.
(7miles) to the North-East of Jaipur on the main road to
Delhi. Amber, the capital of the kachhawah Rajputs befor
Jaipur was built, derives its name from Ambikeshwar, a title
of Siva or from Ambrisha, a king of Ayodhya. The Amber palace
crowns a rocky hill amidst picturesque surroundings. Its
terraces and embattled ramparts are reflected in the pretty
Maota lake. The oldest inscription found here, on one of the
pillars of the Sun temple, Mina tribe, who still in habit the
region. It was wrestled from them by the Kachhwaha Rajputs In
the middle of the 11th century.
